CLF General Meeting Feb 2020 - *Special Joint Event*

In honor of African-American History Month, the GENERAL MEETING AND PROGRAM OF CLAYTON LIBRARY FRIENDS FOR SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 2020 will NOT be held as usual in the Clayton Library Carriage House but INSTEAD we will be gathering for a FREE seminar held at 10:00 a.m. in the Holocaust Museum which is located directly across the street from Clayton Library, Center for Genealogical Research !!!

HOWEVER, you should register for the FREE program IN ADVANCE as reservations are required at the Holocaust Museum. Also if you wish to park for FREE, please park in the Clayton Library parking lot at 5300 Caroline Avenue, Houston, TX 77004 as there is a charge for parking at the Holocaust Museum parking garage, located at 5401 Caroline Avenue, Houston, Texas. SO COME EARLY to insure free parking at Clayton Library as well as to go through security at the Holocaust Museum.

Check in at the Holocaust Museum begins at 10:00 a.m. After you register for the FREE seminar, please go to the Clayton Library Friends table to sign in as a member or guest of the Clayton Library Friends (CLF). Friends who have yet to renew their 2020 membership or if anyone wishes to support Clayton Library Friends, can do so at the CLF table. Lunch is on your own. Please feel free to bring your own lunch.

FREE SEMINAR will be given by Nationally recognized lecturers, Ari Wilkins and Sharon Gillins who will be presenting two sessions each celebrating family history research.

Sessions include:

Incorporating Oral History into Your Research;

The Hand and the Glove....Researching Ancestors in Wills, Land and Property Records;

Using Antebellum Southern Plantation Records; and

Researching African American Family History - The Same and Different.

This FREE event is co-sponsored by the Houston Public Library/Clayton Library Center for Genealogical Research, The Clayton Library Friends, The Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society Inc/Willie Lee Gay H-Town Chapter and the Holocaust Museum Houston. Please also note that there will be a FREE program, "Beginning Your African American Research" at 9:00 a.m. in the Clayton Library Carriage House at 5300 Caroline Avenue, Houston, Texas 77004. The program will be presented by Franklin Carter Smith. Seating for this session is limited and is first come, first seated.
