This general meeting will be a hybrid meeting – held both online via Zoom and in-person at Clayton’s Garwood Meeting Room – and requires registration.

Program Title:  The Last Newspaper Writeup: Obituaries and Death Notices

An obituary or death notice may be the last thing written about your relative within their lifetime.  Finding these biographical announcements of your ancestors can lead to a fuller picture of them and your whole family, or it may only give you one tiny puzzle piece of their lives.  Dive with us into the world of obituaries to see what they can tell us and where to look for these last ancestral writeups.

Irene Walters is in her 28th year as a genealogy librarian at the Houston Public Library’s Family History Research Center at the Clayton Library Campus.  She came to Houston from New York state after receiving her librarian degree and still does a large amount of family research in Northern New York.  As well as helping researchers at the library, Irene gives talks on many aspects of genealogical research both in person and online.  She currently is the Assistant Manager of the Clayton Library and coordinates the library’s acquisition of new materials to further customers’ research. 

Registration is required for either Zoom or in-person attendance. You do not need to be a member to attend the meeting.
